The HBZT ENABle function is used to make a HostBridge for zIIP (HBz) Server available for use in a CICS region.

The following actions take place when a Server is enabled within a CICS region:

  • An instance of the HBz Task-Related User Exit (TRUE) with an entry name of HBZ@+Serverid (Example HBZ@JSE) is enabled but not started
  • The Global Work Area (GWA) associated with the just-created instance of the TRUE is initalized with the installation defaults
  • The ENABled Server is NEWCopied and, as part of that process, the directives specified in PARMLIB members HBZ@+ServerID and HBZ@+Sysid (in that order) are read and processed; for further information on the PARMLIB members above and their contents, click here

The format of the HBZT ENABle command is:

HBZT ENAB(,Serverid)

where Serverid is the name of an HBz Server (such as the installation defaults BASE or JSE).

The Serverid parameter is required.

When you invoke the ENABle function by typing in:

and press the Enter key, you will see a series of screens similar to:

These messages show the following processes being successfully performed

  • The enablement of the TRUE
  • The NEWCopying of the Server, which includes the processing of the PARMLIB members
  • The displaying of the directives processed from each PARMLIB member and denoting which member each directive was specified in
  • The publishing of the TRUE and its then current status

If the ENABle function is invoked in any of the following situations:

  • When HBz is not INITialized
  • When the Serverid is not specified
  • When the Serverid is invalid

the following error message will appear:

You should then press the Enter key to be able to invoke further HostBridge functions.

If an attempt is made to ENABle a Server that is already ENABled, the following message will appear:

You should then press the Enter key to be able to invoke further HostBridge functions.
