The HBZT RECYcle function is used to refresh a HostBridge for zIIP (HBz) Server in a CICS region.

The effect is to perform a STOP function followed by a START function for the Server.

The format of the HBZT RECYcle command is:

HBZT RECY(,Serverid)

where Serverid is the name of an HBz Server (such as the installation defaults BASE or JSE).

The Serverid parameter is required.

Before invoking this function, be sure to use either HBSM or HBGC to temporarily disable running on the zip by specifying HBZ_USE=0, and then waiting a few minutes so that in-flight zIIP requests can finish.  Then, when the RECYcle function is complete, reset the HBZ_USE directive to 1.  You can read about the HBZ_USE directive here.

When you invoke the RECYcle function by typing in:

and press the Enter key, you will see a series of screens similar to:

The messages that you receive are similar to the messages displayed following a STOP and STARt.

If the RECYcle function is invoked in any of the following situations:

  • When HBz is not INITialized
  • When the Serverid is not specified
  • When the Serverid is invalid

the following error message will appear:

You should then press the Enter key to be able to invoke further HostBridge functions.

If a request is made to RECYcle a Server that is already STOPped, the following messages appear:

You should then press the Enter key to be able to invoke further HostBridge functions.
