The HBZT STARt function is used to start a HostBridge for zIIP (HBz) Server in a CICS region so that it can execute requests.

When a STARt  command is executed, the following tasks are performed:

  • The specified Server is ENABled if it is currently DISAbled
  • The corresponding HBz processing task is STARted
  • The corresponding task-related user exit (TRUE) is STARted

The format of the HBZT STARt command is:

HBZT STAR(,Serverid)

where Serverid is the name of an HBz Server (such as the installation defaults BASE or JSE).

The Serverid parameter is required.

When you invoke the STARt function by typing in:

and press the Enter key, you will see a screen similar to:

The messages indicate a successful STARt of the Server and associated TRUE, and show its current status.

If the STARt function is invoked in any of the following situations:

  • When HBz is not INITialized
  • When the Serverid is not specified
  • When the Serverid is invalid

the following error message will appear:

You should then press the Enter key to be able to invoke further HostBridge functions.

If an attempt is made to STARt a Server that is already started, the following message appears:

You should then press the Enter key to be able to invoke further HostBridge functions.
